New fully automatic cold store for Kloosterboer

Logistics service provider Kloosterboer is further expanding its services. The company, which supplies to McCain, among others, is building a new fully automatic high-rise cold store in Lelystad. The new cold store has a capacity of no less than 40.000 pallets.

The new location will be built on a plot of 2,6 hectares and should be operational by the end of 2018. The construction of the new cold store, and the collaboration with McCain (world's largest French fries producer), is expected to create more than 50 jobs. 

Choice for Lelystad
According to Kloosterboer's COO, Stephane Pluenet, the choice for Lelystad is very logical. This location is close to McCain's office on the Oostervaart-Oost industrial estate. In addition, the hinterland of Lelystad offers many opportunities for the distribution of products to the rest of Europe. “We are very pleased with the construction of this second distribution center, which will allow us to better serve McCain, as one of our partners, among others,” said Pluenet.

Kloosterboer and the municipality of Lelystad worked closely together during the preparations for this project. According to alderman Joop Fackeldey (Economic Affairs), the arrival of Kloosterboer confirms the development of Lelystad into a logistics 'hot spot' in the Netherlands. "It also contributes to the employment that this sector needs," said Alderman Fackeldey.

Latest technologies
Kloosterboer's new cold store will be equipped with the latest technologies. In addition, the building will consume 50% less energy than a conventional cold store. Finally, the company ensures that the inventory is centralized. This will reduce road transport by more than 6.000 journeys.
