On Sunday morning, September 3, fire broke out at potato processor Aviko in Lomm. Production had to be shut down due to the fire that started in the oven. An investigation has now been launched into the cause and an inventory is being made of the damage.
The fire in 1 of the chip ovens started around 11:00 a.m. The team leader calls his emergency response team together and immediately decides to evacuate and deploy the fire brigade. According to the fire service, almost 1.000 liters of cooking oil was on fire. On arrival, the fire brigade immediately scales up to a major fire, because there was a chance that the fire would spread.
Production shut down
Due to the large amount of cooking oil, foam had to be extinguished. Additional vehicles from the area were called in to have sufficient fire extinguishers available. The 'fire master' signal was given around 12:30 pm. The company's production has been temporarily halted.
Damage inventory
The fire also released ammonia, but the concentrations were not harmful. At 14 p.m., the factory will be released again by the fire brigade. Aviko is now making an inventory of the damage. Then you can start cleaning and repair. An investigation into the cause of the fire has now been launched, Aviko said in a statement.
