The follow-up inspection by the Dutch General Inspection Service (NAK) has resulted in a lot of class reductions. This was reported by the NAK on Monday 4 September.
The number of class reductions has not been this high in the past 13 years. That is a setback for the entire seed potato sector. This is because the lower the class, the lower the price that the grower receives from the trading house.
NAK is ahead of last year
The inspection service has so far taken 3.417 samples. This involves 683.400 tubers. That is 14% of the total number of tubers to be examined, and the NAK examined 3% of the tubers. This puts the inspection service ahead of previous years.

Reduction percentage turns out higher
The first results of the check show a higher percentage of reduction than has been the case in recent years (21,5%). In 2008, the inspection service came closest to this figure, namely 20,7%. After that, the number fluctuated between 6,7% and 14,8%.
The disappointing follow-up checks do not come as a surprise, because the growers were already warned about virus-transmitting viruses at the beginning of June aphids.
