The arrival of 1 national potato quotation is a fact. It will start on Tuesday 14 November 2017. Much has been said and discussed about the controversial listing. It took a long time before an agreement was reached, especially from Beurs Goes. According to the NAO, we have succeeded in getting all stakeholders on the same page.
PotatoNL. That is what the national potato listing will be called, on which the NAO (Beurs Rotterdam), LNCN (Beurs Emmeloord), VAVI (potato processors) and ZLTO (Beurs Goes) have reached an agreement. This means that the quotations in Emmeloord, Goes and Rotterdam will expire on 14 November. For the 2017-2018 season, 1 national quotation is used for potatoes grown in the Netherlands.
2 odds per week
PotatoNL will take notes twice a week. The listing committee consists of 8 quoters: 4 on behalf of cultivation, 2 on behalf of industry and 2 on behalf of trade. The scoring takes place twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays. An independent facilitator must ensure that everything runs smoothly. Only products of Dutch origin are listed. Transactions between cultivation and trade or cultivation and industry must be settled within 1 month after closing.
Also food and flakes
The national listing includes a very wide range of potatoes. First of all, there is the French fries suitable category 1, intended for the Dutch, Belgian or German chip industry. French fries suitable category 2 is used for other purposes. Think of chilled chips, peeling, chips and export for chip processing in other countries outside the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. The variety groups for the listing, which are noted separately, are Agria, Innovator and Fontane.
In addition to the important chip categories, prices for export potatoes, oversized seed, sorted 40-50 millimeter chip potatoes, flakes and feed potatoes are noted.
Still agreement
After Beurs Goes walked away from the negotiating table in 2015, 1 national listing was hard to find. At the end of last year there were again positive messages. Members of the LNCN voted for a national listing. At the end of December, LNCN chairman Mark Brantjes spoke with hope about a national listing for the 2017 harvest. Beurs Emmeloord and Goes were unable to find each other in the past on 2 important points. For example, Goes was against a category 2 French fries potato listing and it quoted without input from the industry. With that, the listing was sidelined.
For the 2016 harvest, Beurs Emmeloord therefore also used price information from the south of the Netherlands. Growers in Zeeland, Brabant and Limburg were judged on the quotation from the north. The NAO and Vavi already matched each other's listing.
On Wednesday morning, September 13, the participants will explain the national listing. More on this later today on Boerenbusiness.NL.
