Smaller main harvest started in Austria

Potato growers in Austria are busy harvesting their storage potatoes. The barns are less full this year, but the quality is a windfall. However, other European countries are eager to supply the country with potatoes.

The main harvest of storage potatoes in Austria started later than normal. Especially in the important growing area of ​​Lower Austria, people waited longer before harvesting. The storage is also expected to be slightly less full.

The quality of the product is good. To prevent damage from wireworms, we waited longer before harvesting. This is so that the tubers have good skin firmness. 

High price level
Compared to other European prices, Austria's is at an average to good level. Neighboring countries would therefore like to supply potatoes to the country. Growers are paid €22 to €25 per 100 kilos for table potatoes.

The excess size sells for €20 per 100 kilos. Even €26 is paid for the highest quality. In Upper Austria the price is around €25 per 100 kilos.
