Due to the postponement of the harvest season, a number of deliveries of early potatoes are in trouble. Sometimes intended batches have only just been cleared, which means that early sorting is not an option.

Season starts with fits and starts

On balance, the new seed potato season will start in fits and starts. Growers who have been able to harvest free potatoes in time and have them dry in the shed can sometimes benefit from extra interest (including Spunta).

Outlook not wrong
The prospects for the sale of seed potatoes do not seem wrong in advance. It is expected that a comparable volume of seed potatoes can be exported. There is little interest in the trade in seed potatoes for planting out for the cultivation of French fries.

Bintje and Spunta
This month, the price of Bintje seed potatoes has dropped, both in price and mood. In week 35, the indication for Bintje A 28/35 was at €52 to €54 and for size A 35/45 at €32 to €34, with a 'quiet' mood.

There will be no trade in Bintje for the time being

About 4 weeks later, the indication stood at €46 to €48 for the small size and €27 to €29 for the medium size, with a 'bland' mood. For the time being, there will be virtually no trade in Bintje seed potatoes, so we have to wait for buyers to move.

For Spunta, there is currently interest in the final destination Egypt. Price indication is €35 per 100 kilos for the class E, size 35/55.
