Starch campaign Avebe

Storage and tare manufacturers uncertain

20 October 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude

The potato campaign at Avebe has now been underway for 2 months. Characteristic are the very variable conditions during the harvest.

Water and temperature may cause problems, but in general the campaign is running smoothly, reports Avebe. The starch percentage, with percentages around 20%, appears to be slightly above the multi-year average. The rainfall, especially during the first period of the harvest, has ensured that the tare percentage is above average at the moment.

Consequences for storability
Growers have now gone through a period of more stable weather and the harvest is going well in most places. However, Avebe also notes that the high rainfall in some regions does not promote harvesting conditions.

In combination with the relatively higher temperature of recent times, this is expected to have consequences for the storability.
