Breeding company Solynta will receive €16 million to continue developing hybrid breeding techniques. The company has entered into a financing round with Israeli Fortissimo Capital and Dutch Innovation Industries. The company announced this on Tuesday, November 28.
Solynta's ultimate goal: to grow with 25 grams of potato seed instead of 2.500 kilos of seed potatoes. Existing investors, including OostNV, also contributed.
Seed as starting material
The financing round gives Solynta the opportunity to develop new potato varieties. The company from Wageningen has been working for years on the development of a hybrid breeding technique† This technique should make it possible to use potato seed instead of seed potatoes as starting material. This technique also makes it possible to increase the nutritional value of the potatoes and to grow resistant potatoes.
"We are very happy with the support from these important investors. We see the support as a confirmation of the potential for our hybrid cultivation technique," said Hein Kruyt, CEO at Solynta.
