Flevostar Potato files for bankruptcy

14 December 2017 - Wouter Baan - 1 reaction

Flevostar Potato has filed for bankruptcy today, Thursday 14 December. About 1,5 years ago, the company made a 'new start' with a different name and new management.

The company was founded over 25 years ago by Jaap Kodde. Over time, processing grew to approximately 20.000 tons of potatoes per year. Last August, William Verhage was appointed as the new director and Flevostar was renamed 'Flevostar Potato'. This is to be more internationally recognizable. Before that, Verhage was employed by a potato trading house in South Holland.

Own brand
With Verhage as director and co-shareholder, Kodde faded into the background. He remained one of the shareholders. Last summer, the company launched its own brand called 'Williams Potatoes', a non-varietal potato brand for sales in various segments (such as small potatoes and chips).
