It is a relatively significant increase in a potato market that has shown a downward trend in recent weeks. It is mainly category 2 that shows a significant increase at the top of the price range; from €6,25 per 100 kilos last week to €7 this week. Reportedly, Marquis and Agria were traded, mainly for processing in Southern Europe.

Average rating provides plus
The average higher PotatoNL quotation also provided a plus (+ €0,31 = €4,69) with regard to the contribution of the cash settlement. The contribution from Germany fell by €0,30, bringing it to €3,97. The contribution from Belgium (€2,93) and France (€3,30) remained unchanged for week 50. The plus from the Netherlands and the minus from Germany ultimately resulted in an unchanged cash settlement (€3,70).

Chips quotations
The difference between the average chip prices from Belgium, France and Germany (€3,40) is currently €1,60. In other words, the chip potato market in the Netherlands would be no less than 30% higher than in neighboring countries. However, in the Netherlands, category 2 is considered the top end. The result is a large price difference with other countries.

If only category 1 were taken into account (€3 to €5 = average €4), the difference would still be more than €0,50 per 100 kilos: or 15%. The conclusion is that Dutch chip potatoes are currently better priced than in neighboring countries.
