US: fewer potatoes in stock

The United States (US) has produced 18 million tons of potatoes this season. In contrast to Europe, production was slightly less than in the previous season. This also means that stocks are slightly lower at the moment.

Just under half has now been processed. Potato stocks in the US are currently estimated at 9 million tons. At the same time last year (February 2017), this stock was 2,3% higher, at 9,2 million tonnes.

Chips processing continues
However, the Americans have not slowed down when it comes to French fries processing. This is almost the same as last February. 2017 million tons of chips have been processed since December 1,5, which is 0,5% less than in the same period last year. This is because less raw material is needed due to the good quality of the potatoes.

The Americans have shown a consistent picture in terms of production and processing over the past 4 years. Production was always around 18 million tons and on average half of this had been processed by February.
