Despite the fact that slightly more potatoes were processed in the period from August 2017 to January 2018, the volume of pre-fried product is lower.
The return is to blame for this, due to the disappointing quality of the raw material. Last season, in the same period (August 2016 to January 2017), 2 more tonnes of pre-fried product were produced from a comparable volume of processed potatoes (almost 30.000 million tonnes).
Pace at November level
In January 2018, with 339.100 tons of potatoes, the Dutch chip industry processed 27.000 tons more than in December 2017. The pace of the processing industry is therefore back to the level of November 2017. However, it is 11.000 tons less than in January 2017. when the processing figure was set at 350.100 tons.
More than 2017 million tons were processed in the period from February 2018 to January 4. That is slightly more than in the same period 1 year earlier (3,92 million tons). However, a spectacular increase in processing, due to expansion of the capacity of various factories, is not yet really reflected in the figures.
