April potato processing phenomenal

The pace of Dutch potato processors reached a record high in April. In the Netherlands, never before has so much product been processed in 1 month. This is apparent from the processing figures of BO Akkerbouw.

In the month of April there is more than 367.000 tons product processed. The processors apparently continue to keep up the pace, as more than 360.000 tons were processed last month. In April 2017, the volume of potatoes processed decreased in April compared to March to 334.000 tons. This year, extra gas was given in this month.

The bulk of this amounted to around 167.000 tonnes the potatoes processed into pre-baked product. The share of potatoes that came from outside the Netherlands is slightly lower than last year, at approximately 33%.

Difference becomes smaller
From April 2017 to April 2018, more than 4 million tons of potatoes were processed. Although this was slightly higher in the same period 1 year earlier, the difference becomes smaller as we get further into the season.The increased processing capacity of the French fries industry is becoming visible.
