Longest Avebe campaign ever ended

18 May 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Coöperatie Avebe ended the longest potato campaign ever at the Gasselternijveen location on 18 May. This was due to the testing of a new line for high-quality potato protein.

The fact that it was the longest campaign ever, does not mean that more potatoes have been processed. A spokesperson for the cooperative said this. The only reason for the longer campaign was testing a new line for high-quality potato protein.

Nor was there an extremely large supply of consumption potatoes that was used. However, in exceptional cases, extra low-level French fries potatoes have been purchased. The vast majority of the potatoes were starch potatoes and were received via the members of Avebe.

A difficult start and the wet harvesting conditions in the autumn resulted in a higher tare percentage (+7%). Despite the increase in temperature, the quality of the potatoes in storage remained good. The supply also had few problems. Avebe looks back on a went well campaign.

The starch content was in line with the multi-year average and was around 20%. Avebe will start the new campaign in the second half of August, which is comparable to previous years.
