Starch potato processor Avebe has presented its affiliated growers with the campaign prize for the 2017 harvest. This is again higher compared to the previous year. An upward trend is thus clearly continuing.
Avebe has set the campaign price at €70 per tonne. This includes the €3 that is paid for full delivery of the A volume. More than 99% of the A volume has been delivered full, making almost everyone eligible for the premium. Including premiums for starch content, quality and delivery time, the average payment price is €81. Avebe will bear the costs for loading and transport.
Less starch
The campaign price is €2 higher than the previous East, when it was €68 per tonne paid. In turn, the 2016 price was higher than in 2015. The final potato price is the same as 2016. This is mainly due to the difference in starch content.
The campaign price for B and C potatoes has been set at €55 and €40 per tonne. This includes the full delivery A-volume premium. The so-called 'performance components': starch percentage, quality and delivery time apply to all volumes. Because the A volume has been delivered almost completely full, the balance arrangement only affects a limited part of the B volume.
Settlement
On May 24, Avebe will start paying for the A volume. The settlement and payment of the campaign price will follow at the end of May. The potato processor paid an advance of €60 per ton for the A volume. There is now an additional €10. The cooperative result is distributed at the end of the year. The so-called performance price; last year this additional payment amounted to €1,30 per tonne.
Avebe made May 18 known to have completed the longest potato campaign ever. The starch content was in line with the multi-year average and was around 20%. The plan is to start the new campaign on August 20. The last potatoes are expected to be processed at the beginning of May.
