Co-delivery potatoes ruin listing

The input of the various transactions and matters completed from the informant circuit provide the basis for the final quotation. This includes all transactions, as visible on the platform for potato transactions (PAT).

If we look at it today (Thursday, June 7). PAT If we look, we see that the transactions for the various varieties over the past 4 days are between €5,50 and €6,75. These transactions are in line with the quotation. However, if we look at the physical market today, it looks extinct.

Sales are difficult
The potato traders and growers with free potatoes are struggling with sales and are offering them for any price. However, there is currently no buyer can be found on the Dutch market. The potatoes are offered to the Dutch processors; even down to the collection costs, but that does not lead to trade either.

The transactions visible on the PAT are co-delivery kilos of fixed-price contracts (so the growers have a relationship with a potato processor) and these are completed for the above prices. In fact, these transactions do not reflect the market. This is good for those growers, because they are paid well above the market (still too low a price) and therefore also have sales for their product.

It is easy to guess why potato processors pay more for potatoes supplied with the product than for potatoes offered freely. However, due to this system, the stock exchange listing gives an incorrect image of the 'free' potato market.
