HZPC pays 31,65 euros for seed potatoes

HZPC has set the payout price for the Dutch potato pool at €31,65 per 100 kilos. This is comparable to the past 7 years and meets expectations, according to HZPC.

For the oversizes, €5 to €8 per 100 kilos has been paid (excluding VAT). Significantly less was paid for the oversizes than in previous years. Partly because of this, the average hectare yield (in euros) for the 2017 harvest is more than 10% lower than for the 2016 harvest.

Lower yield in potermaat
The Dutch seed potato growers had a yield this year that was 1,5 tons higher than last year. The yield was comparable to the multi-year average, but within the seed sizes the yield by weight was 1 tonne lower than last year. Due to the weather, the proportion of oversizes was larger.

The final price was €0,90 higher than the forecast price. For class E, the average price was €30,51 per 100 kilos (before breeder's contribution and excluding VAT). The average price across all classes is also higher, because more of the better-priced potatoes are grown in the higher classes.

Less export
The fees for the storage and bagging of potatoes are not included in the payout price. During the export season, it appeared that the export of the seed potatoes disappointed† This had everything to do with the low prices for ware potatoes. As a result, HZPC noticed a smaller demand for certified seed potatoes.
