Aviko Potato pays out a pool price for the 2017 harvest ranging from €65,71 to €94,31 per tonne (between week 45 and week 28). The price applies to the Innovator variety. The price of Agria is €2,50 per ton lower and that of Fontane is €7,50 per ton lower. The committee is satisfied with the result, given the huge range on the market.
The potato growers' committee (ATC) calls the result reasonably good, given the difficult market. Innovator achieves the best results in all weeks. In week 45 this is €65,71 per tonne, in week 13 €75,59 per tonne and in week 28 €94,31 per tonne. This concerns the pre-sale pool and excluding a quality premium of €2,06 per tonne. The result is quite different from the previous one season.
In the same 3 periods, Agria and the other varieties (Victoria, Markies and Lady Anna) are €2,50 below this with €63,21 per tonne, €73,09 per tonne and €91,81 per tonne. The third group of Fontane, Challenger and Bintje comes in at €58,21 per tonne, €68,09 per tonne and €86,91 per tonne. The pools without presale are more than €10 per tonne lower. €0,30 pool costs per tonne are deducted from the price and all prices are exclusive of VAT.
According to the ATC, the price of Fontane is 20% higher than the average category 1 stock exchange listing of Potato NL. For Agria this is a plus of €5 and for Innovator €7,50, excluding premiums. The presale pool benefited from the rebound in the potato futures market between May and June. This makes the pool price higher. The average PotatoNL quotation was €45 per tonne. Belgapom averages at €42 per tonne.
Top yield
The increased acreage put pressure on the market. Summer precipitation caused the futures market to fall and the potatoes to grow well. As a result, confidence in the market completely disappeared. The potatoes grew extremely coarse, the ATC notes. The average yield is 57,3 tons per hectare, 11 tons more than in 2016. This meant an extra volume of 110.000 tons. The company has therefore sold a substantial volume to the flake, granulate and starch industry up to 3 times.
Aviko says it is committed to further growth, because the worldwide demand for French fries is increasing. It wants to grow in return for this; 1 of the steps to achieve this is the bonus-malus system in the potato contracts.
