The French potato area is increasing by about 5.000 hectares, bringing the total area to almost 143.000 hectares. In 2017, that total amounted to 138.000 hectares. The NEPG estimated earlier that the area would increase by about 4.000 hectares.

Strongest growth
France is lagging behind with this increase strongest growth see in Europe. The area is increasing sharply (+3.000 hectares), especially in the Hauts-de-France region (where Picardy is also located). However, it is the area bordering Wallonia where by far the largest area is found. More than 2018 hectares are expected here in 90.000.

The area is also increasing sharply in the more centrally located Centre-Val de Loire. The area is also increasing in Haute-Normandy. In that area in particular dairy farmers an opportunity in the cultivation of potatoes. This is because dairy farmers in that area find it difficult to make a living from dairy farming alone.

Early potato delivery
The delivery of early potatoes has now reached its peak. There is a lot of demand for new potatoes in the country, while there is still little supply.
