North America potato harvest smallest in 3 years

The North American potato harvest for 2018 is estimated at over 27 million tons, making it the lowest yield in 3 harvest years. This while a small increase is visible in the acreage.

Yield forecasts from the USDA (the United States Department of Agriculture) and Statistics Canada show that the 2018 potato harvest is expected to be 2,3% lower than the 2017 harvest. This concerns the total harvest, including early potatoes in both the United States and the United States. States (US) like Canada. 

In Canada, the total yield is estimated at about 5 million tons, while last year it was about 5,5 million tons. Meanwhile, the weather conditions in Canada detrimental to the harvest, which can mean a further reduction in yield.

Less than last year
In the US, a yield of 22 million tons is expected, which is about 2% less than last year. In the important production regions of Idaho and Washington, where almost 66% of the potatoes are grown, yields are slightly lower than last year. Previous forecasts corrected the harvest in Idaho estimated higher
