The potato harvest is in full swing and the potatoes are currently being brought in under ideal conditions.
The good weather has the advantage that little or none of the harvest is lost the potatoes (if of good quality) will be stored nicely.
Least far and furthest?
A tour of the European potato fields shows that potato growers in Belgium and France have made the least progress with the harvest. According to insiders, about 80% of the main harvest would still have to be harvested. In the Netherlands, growers are significantly further along: reportedly 70% is still in the ground.
Also in Germany the potato growers The harvest is well advanced: about 70% has been grubbed up. The growers in the state of Lower Saxony are the furthest along with the potato harvest.
Taking a big step
Given the current weather reports, another major step forward will be possible with the potato harvest at the end of next week. In that sense, the growing season on that part (harvest) will in any case end positively.
The speed of the potato harvest means that growers who deliver from the field need many cars. That will remain a major challenge in the coming weeks.
