In the month of September, the Dutch potato industry set a solid record. The potato processing figures show that never before in the month of September were so many potatoes processed.
In the month of September, more than 342 thousand tons of potatoes were processed. The previous record of 2015 (333.300 tons) was easily broken. After the relapse of last month Processing has again accelerated, despite the lower yields of the 2018 harvest.
Show set?
Perhaps potatoes from the old harvest were still processed in September. The transition period from old to new crop is now over. The question is whether the industry will continue the set tone with the record set in September for the rest of the processing season.
Of the 342 thousand tons, 146.600 tons were processed into pre-baked products and 25.900 into other products. A third of these potatoes came from imports, which is less than September 2017. Then almost 42% came from imports.
Less than last year
In the period from October 2017 to September 2018, 4.019.000 tons of potatoes were processed. In the same period 1 year earlier this was still 4.046.500 tons.
