Potato processing grew by almost 2017% in the 2018/2 season. The German industry is now processing more than 3,7 million tons of potatoes, a record amount.

Growth continues
The growth is not from yesterday, because the German potato industry has been making progress for some time. Boerenbusiness posted in 2015 already that our neighbors broke a record in potato processing. At that time, 3,5 million tons were processed.

That record has now been broken. The German potato industry is now approaching the Dutch industry, which processes around 4 million tons of potatoes. The Belgian potato industry remains the frontrunner, with a processing of around 4,5 million tons.

Strong growth since 2010
Processing in Germany has shown a growth of no less than 2010% since 18. In the past 7 years, French fries production in particular has risen sharply (+15% to 560.000 tons). Production from the drying industry is also showing strong growth. This has increased by 2010% since the 2011/30 season to 231.000 tons in the 2017/2018 season.
