A total of 2018 tons of ware potatoes were harvested in Sweden in 449.400. That is 15% less than last year and 17% less than the 5-year average. In some fields the potatoes could not be harvested because they were too small.

The starch potato harvest was even more disappointing and was 20% lower than in the previous year. That writes Jordbruksverket, the Swedish agricultural council.

The acreage also decreased
The reason for the decrease was not only the drought, because the acreage for ware potatoes also decreased (-6% to 16.000 hectares). On the contrary, a larger area was used for firsts and the share of organic potatoes also increased.

The Netherlands usually exports considerable quantities to Sweden. In 2018 (from July to November) 5.500 tons were exported to the country. In 1 year (January 2017 to December 2017), 16.353 tons were exported to the country.

The export to Sweden is lagging considerably this season.
