The annual Potato Theme Day will be organized on Tuesday 12 February in De Meerpaal in Dronten. The mood could be a little more grim than in other years. Why is that?
The above is a separate assumption, given that the average market prices are approximately €25 per 100 kilos higher than last year. Last year around the Potatoes Theme Day, an average of only €5 was recorded and the mood was 'lame'. Today, an average of more than €30 per 100 kilos is put on the plates, which creates a rock-solid atmosphere. Yet the particularly high market prices create a clearly different tension than last season.

The tension even ensured that PotatoNL could not achieve a quotation on Thursday, February 7, especially at this crucial phase of the season. It would have been Bintje's contribution of €28,50 (see also the DCA PAT Index) which would mean that the quotation for category 1 would be lower at the bottom than earlier in the week.
The general mood in the potato market is currently firmer, which means that a lower quotation would not reflect reality. At least, that was the comment from an insider. Not being able to make notes is seen as bad by many stakeholders. However, it is also seen as an incident.
