The potato processing figures for January 2019 are again less high than in previous years. Nevertheless, the factories processed not much less in harvest 2018 than in harvest 2017. What do the figures show?
299.600 tons of potatoes were processed in January, which is slightly more than the 275.800 tons processed in December 2018 was processed. Yet it is clearly less than was processed in January last year, when the figure was 339.100 tons.
However, potato processing for the period February 2018 to January 2019 does not exceed 4 million tons of potatoes. That figure was achieved in the same period last year.
Yield even lower
However, the lower consumption potato yield (-22%) is not clearly reflected in the processing figures. The processing of potatoes from the 2018 harvest (from September) is only 2% lower than in the same period 1 year earlier.
In January, a total of 120.600 tons were processed into pre-baked products and 25.600 tons into other products. About 30% of potatoes come from imports, which is slightly less than last year (32,7%).
