Potato stock harvest 2018 reaches a low point

The potato stock for the 2018 harvest is considerably lower than last season. This is apparent from the stock inventory of the United Growers Arable Farming (VTA). It also appears that the share of free potatoes is considerably lower than last season in this period of the year.

Uit the stock inventory VTA shows that 30,3% of the harvest was delivered in February, which is slightly lower in relative terms than was the case at this time last year. The 5-year average for this period is 43,5%. Participants in the north delivered approximately 22%, while in the south it was approximately 34%.

When we look at the absolute tons, the participants delivered less than last season. This while the absolute stock in storage is also lower than last year (-18%). It is striking that this figure is higher than the 5-year average (+7,3%).

Significantly fewer free potatoes
61% of the potato stock in storage has currently been sold. This figure was 53% last year, which means that the share of free potatoes in storage is considerably lower than last season. It also applies that this is comparable to the 5-year average.
