Rotten potatoes dumped on colleague's sidewalk

21 March 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 5 comments

A potato grower from Zonnebeke (West Flanders) dumped 2 tons of rotten potatoes on the doorstep of another grower in August last year. As a result, the potato grower has now been sued.

The 2 potato growers had a conflict with each other about a concluded contract. The frustrated farmer sold his potatoes to Clarebout Potatoes through the other grower, but last summer's drought prevented him from meeting his delivery obligation. The 2 had a discussion over the phone and then the frustrated grower dumped 2 tons of rotten potatoes in the other's front yard.

Denial
However, the potato grower denies that he dumped the potatoes, but according to the other farmer's lawyer, there are several photos and videos showing that he is guilty. In addition to compensation for damage to the garden, it can result in a fine of €400 and a prison sentence of 1 month.

This article previously stated that it was a purchaser of Clarebout Potatoes, which appears to be incorrect. Clarebout Potatoes has nothing to do with this case.

Is this a Belgian joke or an early April Fool's Day joke?

is a bit stupid, if they were really rotten it's a problem for the recipient, but then the rejection was justified, if they were good potatoes, he brings them to the factory cheaply

The background is that they didn't come to get the potatoes when they deteriorated due to washing. Later on, they were no longer usable and this grower was presented with the bill for not delivering his contract in full. I want to understand him...

Clarebout has nothing to do directly with this case. See also the correction below the article.
