As expected after the past season, potato cooperative Agrico has recorded its highest indication price ever for delivered seed potatoes. A relatively high price level on the consumer market supports the result.
The average indication price (for the delivered kilos from 28 millimeters upwards) at Agrico is €38 per 100 kilos. This price applies to classes S to A, including average premium, loose, ex-farm for autumn delivery. This price includes the grower's licenses. For the monopoly varieties, an average of €2 per 100 kilos of license fee is withheld.
Oversize is beneficial
The seed potato area at the cooperative increased by 3%. At the same time, the yield was considerably lower due to the drought: 35 tons per hectare, which is approximately 11% lower than in the 2017 harvest. Agrico mentions in their reporting that a relatively large amount of excess was delivered, which could be sold on the free consumer market at favorable prices. be dropped off. This supports the overall result.
Agrico is positive about sales to the European fresh market. The consumer market demanded more seed potatoes, which was prompted by high market prices. For contract growers, the price increase of the seed potatoes was limited, because the French fries producers have fixed their purchase price for several years; the cooperative had difficulties in particular with sizing. As a result, more excess seed size has been purchased by the factories.
Overseas export
The overseas export required more puzzling, especially with the class E it was difficult. This is because there was a lot of demand for this. The high price level deterred overseas buyers. Agrico will announce the final payout prices in July.
