News Seed Potato Fraud

Sjoemel seed potatoes are being harvested in Belgium

15 May 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 17 comments

The seed of the Fontane variety that has been illegally propagated and sold is already being harvested in Belgium. Most of the seed potatoes are planted there and the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FAVV) has reported that it wants this to be grubbed up.

Several sources report against Boerenbusiness that the first cheating is already being harvested. The photo below shows that the seed potatoes are being harvested in Zeeuws-Vlaanderen. It is still unknown what will happen to the seed potatoes.

In Zeeuws-Vlaanderen, the seed potatoes that have been used for fraud have now been harvested.

'Everything must be cleared'
At first it was unclear what would happen to the cheated seed. A spokesperson for the FASFC has against Boerenbusiness confirmed, however, that all seed potatoes must be harvested. It is still unknown to what extent the affected growers will be compensated.

The FASFC also states that it has already found more than 200 tons of cheated seed potatoes, divided among 8 farmers. 45 tons of unplanted seed potatoes were also seized from a farmer and trader.

3 years no inspection
Inspection service NAK has additional measures presented† After the field inspection this year, the inspection activities will be suspended for at least 3 years. The arable farm can therefore no longer grow seed potatoes. The choice was made for 3 years because the company delivered uncertified seed potatoes in 3 harvest years.

The 2019 harvest must be accommodated, processed and certified elsewhere under the supervision of the NAK. The seed potato company should not be involved in this.

Do they handle it a little differently just over the border? Did you think that Zeeuwsch Vlaanderen belonged to the Netherlands after all? Still anyway...

This harvester drives just across the border in Belgium , in the Netherlands the Nak Nvwa has advised to leave the seed in place . They still think that they are all seed from Kruisland . at the moment thousands of tons of bintje seed potatoes are processed into salad potatoes so all over, expansion everywhere and still Fontane seed potato about weird but true !!

tell me how it really is

Much more is being traded than what the nak knows about
The proof is also provided with the expansion in Belgium, Germany and France
Then also many tons of approved poters in the salad
If I oversee everything, I think that especially at the large growers there is a lot of tampering, with 10 ha in total this is not possible, but with more than 100 ha and then you really earn something with it
Won't surprise me that a total of at least 10% % of all poters are slloemel poters
But everyone wisely keeps their mouths shut

The company in Kruisland would never have encountered the lamp if its customer had not used false certificates
The leggtoed grower didn't know this and therefore the scarf

exactly piet s this grower deserves a little more support from all other growers who do it themselves instead of all just having an opinion and doing exactly the same themselves. just wait until they run into the lamp too

If they go to check in Belgium, it will turn out that more than a quarter of the seed potatoes have been withdrawn from consumption. It will rain complaints later and then they will put it back on the so-called purchased seed

@zvl : are you crazy or are you just jealous ?
pete s 15 May 2019
Start checking the 10% consumption growers carefully
And that in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany
A large area will then have to be harvested before July 1th
pete s 15 May 2019
I mean the 10%% largest consumer growers of each country
special 16 May 2019
just look at the acreage in Belgium and the tons of imports from Fontane, you will see that I am not crazy and certainly not jealous I will not know what.
pete s 16 May 2019
Agrico and the nak know exactly what has been sold abroad
I think they would rather not know it all
Then the whole of Dutch seed potato cultivation is at stake
tellen 20 May 2019
and then we will again have a shortage of the 2019 harvest. and the industry does not want this.
