The backlog of Dutch potato processors continues to grow. The most recent figures from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (VAVI) show that the gap is increasing with last season.
The processors processed 329.800 tons of potatoes in April. If that figure is compared with the same month 1 year earlier, the difference between this season and last season becomes clearly clear. In April 2018, 367.200 tons of potatoes were processed.
The backlog is also clear from the figures for the past 12 months. Between May 2018 and April 2019, 3,9 million tonnes were processed. In the same period 1 year earlier, this was still more than 4 million tons.
More processed into other products
Of the potatoes processed in April, 148.900 were processed into pre-fried products and 27.300 tons into other products. A relatively large portion was processed into other products this month. In April 2018, 27.300 tons were also processed into other products, while the total volume was clearly larger at that time.
