Fuss over ditches abandonment at NAK

June 7, 2019 - Anne Jan Doorn - 20 comments

There has been a fuss among seed potato growers about the marking of trenches for the NAK inspection service. Several growers indicate on Twitter that they find this measure nonsense.

The NAK wants ditches cut for drainage to be marked with flags. An extra sign with the blue sticker must also be placed at the front of the lot, near the plot sign. In addition, the judge must be informed in the event that trenches have been cut.

Injury at judge
According to the NAK, the reason for these measures is to prevent injury to the judges. The NAK could not be reached for comment, but growers did make themselves heard on Twitter. The response is mainly joking.

never seen anything so sad.
What's the next step?
should we drive the judge around with a front loader on a throne?

Quite right Nak, I once got kicked out of the selection chair as if on a rodeo bull and that doesn't feel good.
Flickering on your maw in a trench 40 deep is the same. I'd be ashamed to be responsible for it. Many growers cannot properly ditch.

Judge has a drink just before the inspection. He is no longer strong on his feet.

Those judges always see everything otherwise!!! I think they see those ditches too

This is another case of administrative ignorance, the inability and daring of the nak board to stop this major shifting of responsibility from civil servants. Those who want to work run a risk, those who live run a risk. Shame on you. Or the Frysk beskamsum. First the fiasco with the card bins, which net no savings at all because the judge still comes by to ask when we start bagging, then he could also have taken the cards with him. You do not have to raise this at the nak meeting because then the discussion will be killed with the comment this is what the sector wanted, yes but I am not the sector I am a member who is not being heard and so this system is dead written down.

Yes, but who is legally liable if the judge breaks his leg through a ditch?
At non-agricultural companies, a GPI first follows before you are allowed to enter the site.

Should we just plot the route where the judge has to walk.

Own risk for those who want to work.

Whether the posts and signs will help I don't know, but we have indeed had a judge fall through a ditch. The own judge knows his plots well, it is the substitutes who run a little more risk here.

We now have fiberglass posts with flags in every ditch.

We also give the judge a map with all numbers and breeds on it. The ditches have also been set up for convenience.

The problem will only really be solved if it is possible to inspect with a drone, in the USA they are already running a test with virus recognition in this way.

Shouldn't there also be a bag with a piece of paper in it on the picket when spraying?
Or has that rule been lifted.
Often enough to see a judge go through a field half an hour after the spray.
They should think about that.

Doesn't the judge always use the ditches to walk through them?

No, they are all spray path inspectors during the season.

Hahahahah, when the judge fell into a ditch I quickly closed it. They were never able to find him again. Amazing, right.

Just place a sign, enter at your own risk. Then everything is legally covered.
