Also in May, there was clearly less processing by the Dutch potato processors. The lower figures mean that the total volume processed over the past 12 months falls below 4 million tons.
327.000 tons of potatoes were processed in May, which is clearly less than in the same month last year (357.400 tons). Processing has now been approximately 3 tons behind last year's figures for 30.000 months in a row. This brings the total processing for the period June 2018 to May 2019 to 3.879.600 tons. In the same period last year, that figure was still above 4 million tons.
Less comes from imports
Of the 327.000 tons processed in May, 153.900 tons were processed into pre-fried products and 29.300 tons into other products. The share of potatoes that come from abroad is 31,6%. That is less than last year, when about 40% came from abroad. More than 103.000 tons come from imports.
