The average payment price of French fries potatoes is €31,10 per 100 kilos. Agria scores the highest, because a price of €31,59 per 100 kilos is paid for this variety. This excludes the €0,25 premium for Global Gap. "We notice an increasing demand from the fresh market for Global Gap. That is why we want to reward growers who make the effort," says Wim van de Ree, director of Nedato.

There is a fee for the Innovator, Marquis and Lady Anna varieties Nedato €31,34 out. For Fontane, Challenger and Victoria the price is €30,64 per 100 kilos. The Bintje variety has a price of €28,10. "We are meeting the growers' expectations and it is certainly nice to be able to compensate for a bad year," says Van de Ree.

Table Potato Pool
The average price for the table potato pool is €33,50 per 100 kilos. Despite the lower yields per hectare, the average financial gross yield per hectare is €13.000 per hectare. That is a historically high amount. All prices mentioned are exclusive of VAT and for delivery in week 13.

The pool without pre-sales is therefore recording above average of the PotatoNL listing. "We had to deal with a flat market for a long time this season, so you can sometimes make a difference during the period with outliers," says Van de Ree.

Differences between pricing systems
Nedato works with 5 different pricing systems. "The prices based on the open market are almost all good. Those who sold part at the daily price were also around €30 per 100 kilos. The click contracts on the potato futures market were also deliberately used well this year, even after the bad years. This achieved an average result of approximately €26,50," says Van de Ree.

However, the pool without pre-sales was about 20% smaller this year. "This was partly because growers who sold part of it under contract first had to deliver it in full (with a lower yield). This left less to sell freely." This year the fixed price was around €13 per 100 kilos. "In the longer term, the pool without pre-sales is always approximately €2 above the fixed price contracts. This is because the peaks are higher than the valleys. However, as a grower you must be able to overcome a bad year," says Van de Ree.

Question dropped
"There was continuous demand for most of the season," Van de Ree explains the market development. But, in the last few weeks of June there was little demand. According to chip processors, this is because sales of fries decreased. "Our figures show that sales were 15% lower at one point. Then you need fewer potatoes. However, the potatoes were used sparingly. The quality was generally good."

In addition to the payment price, dividends are paid to members after the end of the financial year. In recent years, the dividend has averaged a price between €100 and €167 per hectare. This is not included in the prices above. At Nedato, the average yield did not exceed about 40 tons per hectare. The table potatoes were gone in May. At the end of June, almost all the potatoes for the processing industry were gone.
