Potato processing is accelerating

The Dutch potato industry is clearly in a different position than last year. The potato processing figures for the month of June now show a significant contraction. This is evident from figures from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi).

The potato processing figures for June are significantly lower than for the same month in 2018, according to figures from the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi). Less than 300.000 tons of potatoes were processed in June. To be precise, 296.700 tons.

That is an absolute low for the month of June in recent years. In 2018, 355.900 tons were processed and a year earlier, in June 2017, the amount of processed potatoes exceeded 360.000 tons. The total processing over the past 12 months continues to fall below 4 million tonnes. For the period July 2018 to June 2019, the total processing figure is now 3.820.400 tonnes.

More potatoes from abroad
Compared to last year, the share of potatoes from abroad is now higher. More than 2019% of potatoes were imported in 37. Last year that was 34%. 135.000 tons were processed into pre-baked products and 27.500 tons into other products.
