The members of United Growers Arable Farming (VTA) again sampled their potato crops in mid-September. The yield rolled out of this is almost 15% higher than last year. This is the multi-year average.
The average of all samples is 54,07 tons per hectare, an increase of 14,8% compared to last year. Which message VTA on Tuesday, October 8 in a press release. The result is therefore almost equal to the multi-year average. Since not all plots are irrigated, the spread in yields is large. The bandwidth is no less than 41,5 tons per hectare.
Less regrowth
During the previous sampling, in mid-August, the trial harvesting figures were 9% above the 5-year average from† At that time it was 46,9 tons per hectare. On average, more than 7 tons of potatoes have been grown since the measurement in August. In the previous 5 years this was approximately 9,9 tons.
When the samples were taken, in mid-September, some of the potatoes had already been lifted, sprayed dead or completely worn out. Some plots were still growing at 50%.
Mainly cultivation on clay
VTA says it is cautious about drawing firm conclusions. Most participants are located on clay soil and the differences, partly due to irrigation, are large. The same number of samples were taken from all breeds.
According to Numbers of Aviko Potato, at the end of week 40, between 10% and 20% of the main harvest had been harvested. In most areas this is considerably less than in previous years. Most potatoes have been harvested in Gelderland and the Northern Netherlands. In areas where there was a lot of precipitation, very little clearing has taken place.
