Brown rot has been detected in a batch of seed potatoes at a seed potato grower in Friesland. It concerns an infection in the Taurus variety from HZPC. That writes the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA).
The contamination came to light during a regular assessment by the NAK. No new finds were found after further investigation of the NVWA and NAK. The source of that contamination has not (yet) been found. No further contamination was found in a clonally related batch from another grower. In short: there is therefore no question of line contamination. No contamination was found in the other batches on the affected farm either. That is why an introduction is assumed.
First find
The batch in question has been declared infected and the other seed potato batches on the company may not be planted out. Furthermore, restrictions apply to the plots and hygiene measures must be taken. This brown rot find is the first of 2019, while last year there were 3 finds in seed potatoes.
