Potato trading company Agrico has recorded a record turnover of almost €2018 million in the 2019-320 financial year. That is 16% more than in the previous financial year. This record turnover is due to the high prices of seed potatoes.
The turnover in seed potatoes amounts to €248 million, which is an increase of 10% compared to last year and also a record. Due to the high prices, turnover in ware potatoes rose to €64 million, an increase of no less than 49%.
The drought and heat have resulted in a limited potato harvest in the European Union. Due to the drought, Agrico traded less seed, although the acreage was somewhat larger than in the 2017/2018 season. The acreage has increased by 3% compared to last year: 13.625 hectares versus 14.016 hectares in 2018/2019. The amount of seed potatoes sold has decreased by 9%. About 422.000 tons of seed potatoes have been sold this season.
High Payout Price
Although the quantity of seed potatoes sold has fallen, a higher sales price still resulted in record turnover. The payout price of Agrico increased in 2018/2019. The average price of seed potatoes is €39,57 per 100 kilos. This price applies to all barrels supplied in size 28 upwards and in classes S to A (including oversize). The payout price is 45% higher than in 2017/2018. At that time the price was €27,26 per 100 kilos. Seed potatoes in size 28/55 yielded an average of €44,03 per 100 kilos.
