It should come as no surprise that potato export figures are significantly lower compared to 2019. The exported volume of table and industrial potatoes was 34% lower in April compared to the same month a year earlier. Overall, the export is at a higher level.
In April 2019, EU countries accounted for an export volume of almost 70.000 tons of potatoes. This year it is still 45.750 tons. A decrease of 34%. Compared to the month of March, the exported volume is 14% lower. This is evident from export figures from the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO).
Belgium in particular purchased more potatoes. An increase of 8.200 tons is noticeable compared to March. This brings the potato volume in April to almost 31.000 tons. The opposite is noticeable for Germany. The counter remained at 2.590 tons in April, compared to 8.900 tons in March. France also purchased fewer potatoes.
Imports significantly lower
Exports to African countries such as Ivory Coast and Mauritania remained stable in April. A total of 692.500 tons of potatoes were exported up to and including April, compared to almost 650.000 tons a year earlier, when the market was more tight. In addition, the Netherlands imported almost 75.000 tons of potatoes this season. Significantly less than the 109.500 tons of the 2018 harvest.
