The Dutch compensation scheme for chips potatoes, which is implemented by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO), appears to have been amended for the third time and clarified by the ministry. This concerns the status of polar potatoes.
First came into existence uncertainty about contract potatoes who still wanted to be eligible for compensation of €6 from the government by terminating the contract. This road was cut off last week by RVO with an explanation and tightening of the scheme.
However, there was still uncertainty about whether or not Arctic potatoes should be registered for the scheme. A question that remained floating above the market included: Is a polar potato a contract-free potato and must a farmer first terminate his contract with the pool before he can qualify for the scheme?
Question answered
Now RVO has also provided clarity about this. Arctic potatoes delivered after March 16 in accordance with the final destination as set out by RVO (feed, export and flakes) are eligible for the scheme. This question from Arctic potato growers and pool managers has been answered here.
RVO states on its website: financing guide the following explanation: "You still have a stock of 300.000 kilos of potatoes. These are potatoes that you have grown in a pool system. You can apply for the allowance for the entire stock. You will receive a maximum of €0,06 per kilo. So you will receive from us a maximum of 300.000 kilos x €0,06 = € 18.000. You can also sell the potatoes for animal feed, for example. You can keep the proceeds."
