Fries compensation up to a maximum of € 25.000 can be requested now

29 July 2020 - Redactie Boerenbusiness - 5 comments

RVO has opened the online counter for determining the compensation amounts for growers of French fries. Growers with damage of up to €25.000 can now submit their final application, BO Akkerbouw reports.

Growers can also change or withdraw their provisional application if the surplus of potatoes turns out differently than originally estimated. In total, almost 1.200 potato growers have submitted a preliminary application for approximately 900.000 tons of French fries. Calculated with a compensation amount of 6 cents per kilo, this comes out to an amount of approximately €54 million.

50 million ceiling
The scheme is capped at €50 million. If in September it turns out that more than €50 million is still being requested, the amount of 6 cents per kilo will be reduced for all applicants. But there is a chance that growers will change or withdraw their provisional applications. As soon as the total amount falls below €50 million, the compensation amount is definitively set at 6 cents per kilo and RVO can immediately pay out on the basis of the final applications.

The situation for growers is now as follows:

  • For amounts up to €25.000, growers can request their final allowance up to and including 31 August on the RVO website. Growers can fill in and send the necessary forms themselves. No accountant's statement is required.
  • It is not yet known when these can be applied for for allowances above €25.000. RVO is currently consulting with the Ministry of Agriculture about the requirements. As soon as there is clarity, RVO will announce the rules of the game.
  • All growers who have submitted a provisional application for compensation during the registration period can now withdraw or change it at the RVO online counter.

Call for tonnage control
André Hoogendijk, director of BO Akkerbouw, calls on everyone to check the specified tons and adjust them where necessary. "The sooner RVO has a good idea of the total damage, the sooner payment can be started. We hear from growers that the provisional application was easy to complete and that growers quickly received their advance payment from RVO. We see that claims up to €25.000 can now be handled in a simple manner, but we would like to see the scheme also open quickly for growers with larger claims."

Is the date mentioned correct? I think it should be September 15 instead of August 31. This is also stated on the RVO website: From 13 July to 15 September, you can apply for the definitive allowance (determination) for the Allowance for French fries potato growers.

August 31 is the date for the regulation for floriculture/food agriculture.

Id September 15, but the exact details of the arrangement there still seem to be unclear.

I fall under the scheme above 25000 euros and that must also include an accountant statement and what I understand further is that the RVO intends to assess each file separately!!!

I'm afraid that a lot will get stuck on the bow along the way and that the crumbs will be left for the growers.
