The field inspection of seed potatoes for the 2020 cultivation season by the NAK inspection service is almost complete. The latest results show that the reduction percentage for this season is almost the same as last season. The number of rejected plots is lower than last year.
Inspection service NAK announces that the reduction percentage for seed potatoes for the 2020 growing season is 14,5%. That is almost the same as last season. In 2019, 14,8% of seed potatoes were reduced in class. The reduction percentage is also below the level of 2018, when the number of reductions was between 16% and 17%.
The largest percentage of reductions is visible on the sandy soils in the Northern Netherlands (category Northern II), where 23,6% of the seed potatoes have been reduced in class. Last year the number of reductions was also the highest in that region, although the reduction percentage this growing season is lower than in the previous year (24,8%).
Fewer seed potatoes rejected
The percentage of plots with seed potatoes that have been completely rejected is lower than last growing season. For the 2020 growing season, this amounts to 1,5%, while in the 2019 season it was still 2,2%. The highest number of reductions is visible in the north of the country (sandy soils), where the percentage amounts to 3%. In the south the percentage is also above the national average: 2,1%.
Earlier on reported I already know that the majority of the reductions this year are primarily caused, i.e. by viruses transmitted via aphids.
