About the past few weeks the first results of the test harvests have slowly trickled in and the results have one thing in common: a yield below average and a high underwater weight. This also applies to the results of the first trial harvest by the potato trading company Bruwier. Both Fontane and Challenger are below the level of the past 5 years.

Fountains
The first (net) yields for the Fontane variety at Bruwier amount to 41,4 tons per hectare. 77% falls in the size classification 50 millimeters upwards. The result of this first trial harvest is therefore 0,7 tonnes lower than the average of the past 5 seasons. That amounts to 42,1 tons per hectare.

On the other hand, the yield is higher than last year. The result after the first trial harvest was 39,7 tons per hectare. A positive picture is also visible compared to the previous year. In 2018, the yield was 30,9 tons per hectare, although the drought in that year also took on more extreme proportions. The underwater weight for Fontane is currently an average of 423 grams.

Challenger
The first trial harvest results for the Challenger variety are also below the multi-year average. The trial harvest shows a net yield of 39,8 tons per hectare, compared to the 5-year average of 40,9 tons. Approximately 60% currently falls in the size 50 millimeters upwards. Towards last year a similar result is visible. The test harvest then amounted to 39,7 tons per hectare. The underwater weight for Challenger is now an average of 418 grams.

The next trial harvesting of potato trading house Bruwier will take place in week 37. It is interesting to monitor whether the additional growth of the potatoes - just like with PCA, Fiwap and Aviko - here too is less than in other years.
