Belgapom has to look for CEO again

28 October 2020 - Kimberly Bakker

The Belgian potato trade organization Belgapom unexpectedly has to look for a CEO again. The intended CEO, Tom Vandenkdelaere, has announced that he will again take up a seat in the European Parliament. In addition, Marc van Herreweghe will remain chairman of the organization for the next 3 years.

Belgapom made mid july announced that Romain Cools would hand over the baton to Tom Vandenkdelaere after 3 decades. As a Member of the European Parliament (involved in the Agriculture Committee, among other things) and as interim director of the Flemish Roeselare, Vandenkdelaere seemed the ideal successor. The intended CEO, on the other hand, has decided to fill the vacant seat in the European Parliament again. "This mandate is incompatible with my role at Belgapom," he said.

"Moreover, in the European Parliament I can take up the concerns of the Belgian potato sector better than anywhere else. Agriculture is the most important competence of the European Union and is now also one of my spearheads. With dossiers such as Brexit, free trade agreements and the Green Deal, it quickly becomes clear how important it is to be heard at European level," said Vandenkdelaere. Originally, Vandenkdelaere would start on January 1 as CEO of Belgapom and Cools would remain active as an advisor at the company for another 6 months from that date. Cools will now remain as CEO until a new CEO is found.

New board elected
Belgapom was able to elect a new board last week. Marc van Herreweghe will remain on as chairman of the potato trade organization for the next 3 years. Van Herreweghe is supported by vice-chairmen Hannelore Raes (Agristo) and Ben Muyshondt (Pomuni Fresh & Trade).
