The pricing of the Aviko Potato ex-land pool has been strongly influenced by the corona crisis, the Potato Growers Committee (ATC) reported on Tuesday 8 December with the presentation of the pool result. The result is therefore significantly lower than in the 2018 and 2019 harvest years.
Aviko Potato's ex-field pool has achieved an average price of €38,10 per tonne for the Zorba and Innovator varieties. The other varieties (Agria, Fontane, Miranda, Victoria and Amora) score an average price of €33,10 per tonne. This means that the result is significantly less than in the 2018 and 2019 harvest years. Two seasons ago, for example, a 'fat twentysomething' scored on all breeds. This could not be equaled in 2019, but was low the result considerably higher than this season: on average around €130 per tonne. The final size of the pool this year is almost 23.000 tons.
Major differences between regions
With the off-shore pool, Aviko focuses mainly on French fries potatoes that are grown on the eastern sandy soils. "For the 2020 harvest, the potatoes could be planted on time, but this was followed by a long period of drought. As a result, a large number of plots were irrigated several times. Although the growing conditions in June and July were good on average, the differences between the regions are proved to be enormous," the ATC writes.
The developments surrounding the coronavirus have also had an impact on the off-shore pool at Aviko. "Pricing during the period when the pool comes onto the market was completely influenced by corona." During that period, PotatoNL recorded an average of €31,72 per tonne and Belgapom did not exceed a quotation of €29,90 per tonne. In that respect, Aviko Potato's off-shore pool does not score that bad at all.
