Potato processing has been moving in a wave in recent months. One month slightly more is processed and the next month slightly less. More potatoes were processed last March and the potato processing industry again processed slightly fewer potatoes in April.
In April, a total of 292.900 tons of potatoes were processed into fries and other products. This is evident from the processing figures published today (Thursday, May 20) by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (VAVI). That is almost 30.000 tons less or 9% less than in March. Production is largely the same as February and December. A comparison with April last year is flawed due to the first lockdown that was in force at the time.
Import remains stable
In April, 39,8% of processed potatoes came from abroad. That amounts to 116.700 tons. In terms of tons, that is comparable to last month. The processing efficiency this month is 51,1%. That is almost the same as last month when it was 51,7%. A total of 123.900 pre-fried fries were produced and 25.700 tons of other products.
