"The crops are in good shape and the sun of the last 10 days has had a positive effect on the whole. It is now growing fast and the taste is great," said auction director David Hage during his opening speech. In a brief look back on the past year, he mentioned the fear and uncertainty caused by the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, sales on the table potato market have continued well. "Reports about a late spring and a shrinkage in acreage in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France have contributed to the quotations reaching €19. We can say that this offers perspective."

Charity
The first box was traditionally auctioned for charity, this year the Epilepsy Fund. The first box raised €1.750 and was purchased by Jansen-Dongen on behalf of supermarket chain Jumbo. Jansen-Dongen doubles the amount and Alvantho also makes an additional donation.

A total of 48 tonnes was auctioned and prices varied somewhat. Doré yielded between €0,75 and €0,95 per kilo, Première between €0,73 and €0,75 Nicola €0,72 and €0,78, Colomba €0,65 €0,72 per kilos. What was striking were the Frieslanders, which started at €0,76 and rose to €0,83 per kilo during the auction.

The potatoes now being auctioned were grown under plastic. The potatoes from the cold ground will have to wait a little longer. It is therefore expected that the supply will be limited in the coming weeks.
