Seed potato trading house HZPC is very satisfied with the grower's prize that the company has managed to achieve in the past eventful year. The payout price for the growers of HZPC is slightly higher than the forecast price.
The final payment price for the HZPC growers is €30,80 per 100 kilos. That is €0,80 above the forecast price announced last spring. The corona crisis has had little impact on the European fresh market and the seed potatoes in that segment did well last season. Exports to some destinations were difficult. Certain countries imposed import quotas to prevent the outflow of hard currency. Some customers were therefore able to import less seed potatoes, according to HZPC.
Chips industry hit hard
The European chip industry has also been hit hard. Due to the reduction in the chip potato area in 2021, sales of seed potatoes for this sector were smaller than HZPC expected at the start of the 2020 seed potato season. As a result, less seed potatoes could be sold in this sector. “This decrease was a disappointment for everyone. That is why we are happy that despite these challenges we were able to achieve a payout price of €30,80,” says Martin Jansen Klomp, regional manager Benelux, in an explanation. However, HZPC's profit is nil due to the corona crisis.
