Potato processors have broken the pattern of the past six months. The processing figure, which was above 300.000 tons in May, is not followed by a drop in production this time.
But precisely because of a further increase. In June, 331.100 tons of potatoes were processed into fries and other products, according to figures published today (Thursday, July 15) by the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (VAVI). Not so many potatoes have been processed since October 2020. Compared to May, processing has increased by almost 4%. Compared to June 2020, 56.800 more tons have been processed, but production is still slightly behind pre-corona years.
Of the processed potatoes, 138.200 tons, or 41,5%, came from abroad. In May this was still 145.000 tons. In June, 145.300 tons of pre-fried fries were produced and 27.500 tons of other products. The processing yield has increased slightly compared to recent months and amounts to 52,2%.
