On Thursday, July 15, potato cooperative Nedato from Oud-Beijerland announced its pool prices for the 2020-2021 season. A group of 100 growers could be physically present. The chip potato pool without pre-sale - which Nedato calls AVI pool - amounts to €7,10 per 100 kilos in week 13. The delivery period runs from country to country until July. The Markies variety is the only one that yields 25 cents more. All other chip varieties could not fetch a premium from the market. The bottom pool for chip potatoes is a slightly more favorable €11,05 in week 13.

If we compare these results with the average scores, Nedato has performed above this level. PotatoNL's category 1 quotation amounts to an average of €6,51 over the entire delivery period.

AVI Pool without pre-sales Average price for all qualities, delivery week 13
marquis €7,30/100 kg
Other breeds €7,05/100 kg
table potatoes Average price for all qualities, delivery week 13
Retail pool €17,00/100 kg
Table Potato Pool €16,67/100 kg

€900 for PlanetProof
The retail pool comes up with a completely different result. The average result for week 13 here is €17,00. The average price achieved in the table potato pool is €16,67 per 100 kilos. With an average hectare yield of 49 net tons per hectare, the gross balance is €8.800 per hectare. PlanetProof certified potatoes yielded €900 more per hectare on the market. Nedato pays this amount directly to certified growers.

In addition to 3 pools, Nedato has more sales methods. Fixed prices, daily prices and click contracts. This together is called the Nedato Flex System. At the end of the financial year, a dividend is paid out to the member growers. This is not included in these prices.

Market out of balance
The difference of €10 between fries and retail potatoes is explained by the changing consumption patterns as a result of the corona crisis. The closure of catering establishments and the absence of events was well noticed in the processing industry. In supermarkets, turnover actually increased. Consumers bought more fresh potatoes. This has caused the market to become unbalanced.
